overview

Families are the lifeblood of the San Diego PBC organization. We are blessed to be able to partner with players parents in the development of their child. The PBC program creates a climate where young players learn to desire competition, the fundamentals of the game, and to develop strong character traits.

In April of 2006, San Diego PBC began operations in the North County. Club Owner and Director, Brooks Barnhard, took his years of playing experience (University of San Diego, Spain, France, etc.) and youth basketball training experience (over a decade of running camps, clinics and private lessons in the San Diego area) and formed a competitive basketball club program. Over the years, we have seen great players go on and play at a very high level in High School and even beyond.

Our competitive program is geared toward young players who have a strong desire to play at a higher level. This program is not for players who are only interested in playing at a recreational level. We desire to form teams of players who have similar goals of playing and competing at their highest level. With that desire, our staff can work to develop that desire and see players reach their goals as an athlete and a person.

philosophy

San Diego PBC is a year round boys and girls competitive basketball program based at Maranatha Christian School (9050 Maranatha Drive, SD 92127). Our program is broken into four seasons:

  • Winter (Dec. - Feb.)

  • Spring (March - May)

  • Summer (June - Aug.)

  • Fall (Sept. - Nov.)

We practice 2 times per week at the Maranatha Christian School Gym (subject to change).

Our teams participate in the San Diego SOL (Scripps Ranch) competitive league in each of these seasons. The SOL program runs excellent leagues that provide opportunities for our players to compete in games with teams at their level of play.

In addition to practices and games, the San Diego PBC families reach out to our community in various events throughout the year:

  • Feed the homeless

  • Visit nursing homes

  • Assist military families

  • Volunteer at the Challenged League

  • ...and much more

These opportunities have developed a stronger PBC family and our staff has seen our teams grow in chemistry both on and off the floor.

what we do

Young people need great leaders guiding and directing them in their early development. Sports provides a great platform to work strong character skills into young people. Our leaders/coaches work on these three principles:

  • LOVE

  • EMPOWER

  • INSPIRE

LOVE: Our coaches are committed to providing an encouraging environment with strong boundaries and disciplines. A safe environment where players will feel valued and unique. A competitive environment where young people will learn the value of hard work and the result of that work. A place where disappointment leads to a desire to improve and not a sense of failure and quitting.

EMPOWER: Players will be trained by coaches with a strong knowledge of the game. These coaches will use this knowledge to train and empower young players to perform at a high level.

INSPIRE: Combine the first two principles and you get inspired basketball. At PBC, we have seen many teams play beyond their means because they are being led by coaches who are committed to the philosophy of the program.

Train a child up in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it.
